Our programs offer training to workers whose jobs expose them to
hazardous materials. We specialize in providing quality training
to individuals who are emergency responders, environmental
technicians, manufacturing workers, and construction workers. We
also provide training to individuals interested in starting a
career in these specialized fields. Our team of experienced
instructors works extensively with diverse populations, such as
residents of disadvantaged communities, minority youths,
unemployed and low-skilled workers, and
limited-English-proficient students.
Courses are continuously adapted based on the individual needs
of students and employers. Because many of OAI's courses are
grant subsidized, smaller companies, and workers who cannot
afford the full cost of training, are able to receive training
required by OSHA and other regulatory agencies. Eligibility
requirements and funding information are available upon request.
Funding sources include the National
Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) and the US
Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA).
EH&S prides itself in creating and delivering effective
training models. Our programs are customized by
integrating EH&S courses with courses offered by other OAI
departments, resources and partners. EH&S also conducts
stand-alone courses for individuals needing one
certification or a refresher course to increase or update
current skills. Extensive programs also are available for
individuals interested in starting a career and, therefore,
require additional training. Employers and students alike have
found that EH&S services fit their training needs and create
new avenues to success.
In addition to our technical courses, some
of our students rely on OAI for additional services to obtain
gainful employment, such as our job readiness and computer
technology courses. Our accomplished career guidance staff is
accessible to them during and after training for personal
counseling and job development support.
